Abstract

The prevailing notion is that allopatry is the main driver of divergence between populations, leading to speciation. But a number of recent studies show that speciation occurs in sympatry too, that sympatric speciation is quite common, perhaps more common than hitherto believed. Such studies have been reviewed in this communication.
