Abstract

The media industry, often referred to as the 'mass media', involves the mass production and communication of a wide range of messages to mass audiences (McQuail 1999) for purposes such as education, information, news, entertainment and advertising. The main areas of the media industry are the press, broadcasting — radio or television transmission for general public reception — and cinema. In recent years communication has become less mass with increasingly smaller scale and interactive communication, exemplified most notably by the internet.KeywordsMedia IndustrySectoral PolicyContent RegulationPublic BroadcasterPublic Service BroadcastingThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
