Abstract

The roof of a building is an assembly of multiple components that work together to create a waterproofing or water-shedding system. There are two basic types of roof assemblies—low-slope roofs and steep-slope roofs—and the design and purpose of each are significantly different. Building information modeling (BIM) has the ability to accurately portray structural members, so the most effective way to create a low-slope roof is to create each layer of the assembly from the substrate, or roof deck, all the way to the surfacing or coating that covers the roof. Roof assemblies are made up of multiple products that work together to provide a waterproof or water-shedding system for a building or other structure. Roof coverings are developed graphically by drawing an area and selecting a roof type. There are two sides to the graphics of a roof covering: the surface pattern and the rendered appearance.
