Abstract
The term successful aging has been used in the field of gerontology to indicate the components and circumstances fundamental to healthy aging. While there is no consensus among researchers on the definition or determinants of successful aging, the term generally implies a positive state of aging or that a person is aging well, and is often synonymous with such expressions as vital aging , productive aging , healthy aging , active aging , optimal aging , and positive aging . The successful aging concept has been used in the gerontology literature as both an outcome and a process, generating considerable amounts of research on its meanings, determinants, and models.
