Some thoughts on Fortran as a second language.When I started teaching at USF in 1982, the first language for Computer Science students was Fortran. Most of the juniors and seniors in my advanced classes did not know Pascal. This situation has now completely turned around: we are teaching Pascal as a first language and Fortran second.
