Abstract

Interference is the disruption in the existing signal operating at one particular frequency channel by the other signal that also starts operating on the same frequency channel either deliberately or by misapprehension. It is worth discussing the potential terminologies of cognitive radio (CR) and interference to realize the effect and to find the probable ways of interference mitigation in the CR networks (CRNs). Those potential terminologies are white space, grey space, black space, and interference temperature, which are illustrated in this chapter. First, the chapter comprises the interfering and non-interfering CRN. It then explores various interference avoidance and mitigation techniques. The chapter presents the cross-layer perspective of interference. It illustrates the interference management and potential challenges for different constituents of the cognitive cycle.
