Digital signal processing and its wide application in communication systems redefined radio transceiver design. New direction which considerably affects the field of radio-communication is called 'software radio'. The basic nature of the software radio technology is the total programmability of all radio devices. The software radio consists of the following components: analog to digital and digital to analog converters, digital signal processors, digital down converters and general purpose microprocessors. In commercial applications this technology rapidly finds its use in mobile communications. Because of its flexibility the software radio technology is widely applied military communication and electronic warfare systems.
