Sexual Addiction

Abstract

Sexual addiction describes out of control or excessive behaviors, thoughts, or desires relating to sex. Also known as hypersexuality, sexual addiction is a highly contested concept because it is thought to prescribe narrow and often heteronormative understandings of sex. Treatment programs commonly borrow from recovery processes of other addictions. Public awareness of and interest in sexual addiction continue to grow.
