Abstract

This paper presents the current development and formulate the future direction of selective laser melting (SLM) technology in the aerospace industry. The potential application and challenges of SLM in producing aerospace industry components, their key requirements, and the mechanical properties of the built parts were discussed. SLM technology can be considered a viable method in the aerospace industry when all process parameters are controlled, consistent and the printing process is stable. This paper fulfills a need to evaluate the SLM technology in terms of application in the aerospace industry, as there are no viable studies that directly address this issue.
