Abstract
This chapter describes the medical history, medications, dental history, social history, oral examination, and radiological examination of a 38-year-old female, who is presented to the dental clinic requesting replacement of her upper denture as the current denture fractured 6 months ago and now keeps falling out. The characteristics of this patient that are likely to be linked to the use of recreational drugs are self-neglect, agitated state, and close association with other psychiatric illness, social issues and dangerous behaviours. The chapter also contains the definition, aetiopathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical features, management, prognosis, and a world/transcultural view of recreational drugs. Recreational drug use is linked to multiple health problems and other health risk behaviours such as alcohol dependence. The variety of drugs available and their markets are expanding due to high-level manufacture of cocaine and opium and online drug trafficking.
