Abstract

Field data for both bedload sediment transport and suspended-load sediment transport are analysed for 21 stream-sediment stations in California. Data included the period from 1970 to 1982; they consisted of 199 bedload events and 419 suspended-load events. The principle dependent variable used for correlation with sediment transport was the excess streampower. When compared with equilibrium (that is, maximum) sediment transporting conditions, the field data showed a decrease with excess stream-power. This decrease was empirically associated with the stream friction factor.
