Abstract
Urolithiasis is associated with significant morbidity. The major stones type is calcium oxalate (74%), while 7-10% of all urolithiasis cases are uric acid stones. The data are conflicting on the significance of hyperuricemia or hyperuricosuria in urolithiasis formation and on the requirement for hyperuricemia medical treatment in order to prevent stones. It is not clear whether hyperuricemia coincident with normal uricosuria is a risk factor for urolithiasis and should be treated.
