A Statement on Astronomical Light Pollution and Light Trespass

Misdirected or misapplied outdoor lighting, sometimes referred to as light trespass or light pollution, is a concern to some individuals for a variety of aesthetic and environmental reasons. Some of the consequences of these concerns are the light control laws or policies that are being adopted in some areas. The purpose of this report is to present a summary of some of the concerns and the efforts that are being made to allay them by law; and to suggest a basis for lighting designs to alleviate the problem or form a basis for future ordinances.
