Abstract

Abstract Quinone cofactors are used by several classes of enzymes that catalyse the oxidation of biogenic amines and alcohols to help catalyse these reactions. Previous to 1990 only one cofactor, pyrroloquinoline quinone, had been identified, but from 1990–1996 three new quinone prosthetic groups derived from naturally occurring amino acids have been discovered.
