Abstract
This paper discusses the basic rules and considerations in the aesthetic design of bridges. The discussion is organized around the two aspects of bridge aesthetics that are largely independent of each other: integration of the bridge into its surroundings and design of the bridge as a structure in itself. Also discussed is the correlation between aesthetics and economy in bridge design.
