This article formulates an approach to improving the existing system of organizing container shipping. Along with full-set container trains, it is proposed to form container block trains of differentiated ("floating") lengths in a technologically sound interval. The calculations of the economic efficiency of the departure of block trains with a length of 53, 55, 57 and 58 conventional cars are given. It is noted that the organization of transportation by short block - trains entails a relative saving of conditionally - constant ("independent") transportation costs.
