Abstract
This chapter discusses the microwave filter units of a non-processing transponder. Filter units along the signal path are the multiplexers, which are channelizers. A filter allows certain frequency bands to pass through it and blocks out others. The five filter bandforms are the following: low-pass filter, high-pass filter, bandpass filter, band-stop filter, and all-pass filter. A microwave filter is an example of an analog filter. A filter is a network that processes signals in a frequency-dependent manner. Dual-mode resonators are far more common than single-mode resonators because the number of resonators in a filter is reduced by half. The most general two-port network is composed of single-mode resonators that are all coupled to each other. A self-equalized filter has a linear phase response or, equivalently, constant group delay across most of the passband.
