Abstract
This study examines the distribution of epizoic algae on the clam, Lampsilis radiata, in relation to the mollusc's siphon. Samples were taken at 1 mm, 5 mm, and 13 mm away from the siphon. Algal flora was analyzed in terms of relative abundance. Cyanophytes and Bacillariophytes were found to be by far the most dominant divisions. Oscillatoria, Acnanthidium, Cyclotella, Epithemia, and Navicula were found to be the most abundant genera. Tolypothrix decreased in number with increasing distance from the siphon. Acnanthidium was present in greatest numbers closest to the siphon. Navicula increased in number with increasing distance from the siphon.
