Abstract

Female whale shark, Rhincodon typus \nmeasuring 475 cm in length and approximately 800 \nkg in weight was stranded near Ayikkara Fisheries \nHarbour in Kannur District on 25th November 2011. \nWhale shark is locally called as “pullisravu” and the \nstranding of this species is not common in shallow \nwaters along the Malabar region. Whale shark is \nlisted as an endangered species as per the IUCN \nRed List.
