Evolution of diversity among Icelandic arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus L.)

Volcanic activities, resulting in diverse habitats and Island effects allow for unique evolutionary processes to work on the few species found in Iceland. These ecological relationships are evident in the variability found among freshwater fishes in Iceland. I review the diversity among arctic charr, and propose plausible explanations for the alternative adaptations and evolutionary processes acting on the species.
