Abstract
For over a century, conformity assessment approaches have provided objective evidence that a product meets standards of safety. Product acceptability is achieved either through voluntary compliance with industry consensus standards or required compliance with standards specified by regulations. Conformity assessment means that the purchaser recognizes a marking on the product thus providing confidence requirements in standards have been met. To achieve meaningful software certifications, it is important to bring together standards, independent assessments, recognized markings, and on-going follow-up, namely to develop software conformity assessment approaches
