It is noted that the slump test can be an indicator of the future performance of concrete for a given mixture only when the following are exactly same for batch to batch and from day to day: aggregate; cement; fly ash; admixture; air; time/temperature; and water. It is noted that slump is not a good indicator of total water in a mixture. If slump is related to compressive strength for a given mixture, the plot of slump versus strength would be a straight line, with all points falling on the line. If non-mix-related influences such as testing are considered, some of the points would not fall on the trend line, but would still be within reasonable limits. Regression analyses data are illustrated and discussed.
