Abstract
This experiment was carried out to effects of different shading levels on growth and variegation appearance of Polygonatum odoratum var.pluriflorum 'variegation'.To analyze free sugar and chlorophyll content and the sorts of yellow pigment of Polygonatum, the results showed that satisfactory growth of plant height, leaf shape and remarkable leaf yellow-veining appearance under 25 % shading level contrast to others. At the beginning of birth, the free sugar content in no shading treatment plot is highest But the beginning of shading treatment 45 days, the free sugar content in 25 % shading treatment plot always is highest. The chlorophyll content of the whole leaf was increased with increasing shading rate. Therefore,it was recommended that 25 %shading treatment appears to be the optimum intensity of light to grow P.odoratum var.pluriflorum 'vasiegation'reasonably well for desirable cut leaf purposes. The results of color reaction of pigment,TLC and HPLC analysis showed that the yellow pigment in the leaf was Kaempferol of Flavonol accurately.
