Abstract

All too frequently, a community's questions and concerns are ignored when it comes to planning and designing transportation projects. However, open communication can lead to a successful compromise between designers, agencies, and local stakeholders during the planning stages of transportation projects. With this in mind, this article details how the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and the American Assn. of State Highway and Transportation Officials are helping to ensure that residents have a voice in the planning of transportation improvement projects in their communities.
