Abstract
This paper studies the complexation of lanthanide ions with tetramethyl ester of bicyclo(3.3.1)nonane-2,6-dione-1,3,5,7-tetracarboxylic acid by luminescence and IR spectroscopy. It is shown that the acid reacts with lanthanide ions to give complex compounds with an Ln:ligand ratio of 1:2 where Tb and Dy ions luminesce strongly. The Tb and Dy complexes studied can be used as analytical forms for terbium and dysprosium determination in lanthanide oxides.
