Abstract

This paper provides a high level outline of the Highways Agency (HA) National Roads Telecommunications Services (NRTS) project. This project was launched, following the approval of a feasibility study, in July 1999 to procure a telecomm service for the HA, using private finance. At the time of writing (June 2002), the process is at prequalification and pre-tender. Invitation to Tender documentation is currently being prepared for release to a shortlist of Bidders in September 2002. A key strategic aim of the Highways Agency is to contribute to sustainable development by maintaining, operating and improving the trunk road network in support of the Government's integrated transport and land use policies.
