Abstract

Children like to play games. For this reason, many elementary school teachers have used games as a way to practice basic facts and computational skills. To make the most effective use of games, however, teachers should discriminate carefully between maintenance games, in which the child must already know the fact or kill, and teaching game which are designed to help the child learn the fact or skill involved. Let's consider two examples to illustrate the difference.
