Abstract

ObjectivesThis project is a nominal two-year effort to design, construct, test, and evaluate an experimental system for utilizing solar energy to drive heating, cooling, and hot water subsystems, supplemented as necessary with auxiliary (oil or gas) fuel.The program is designed to provide the following information: a. design data for integrated systems and the various subsystems, b. system performance for heating, cooling, and water heating, c. operating economics, d. veri fication of the University of Wisconsin model, e. design and,operation of automatic controls, f. correlation of standard Weather Bureau data with on-side insolation data, and, g. system reliability evaluation.System design has been accomplished during the first five months and construction completed during the following five month period.Operation and evaluation through a summer air conditioning cycle and a winter heating cycle.are being made during the period 1 September 1974 to 30 August 1975.The refrigeration system consists of a specially modified Li Br/water absorption system operated with hot water.The building is designed so that the various subsystems can be removed and replaced, so that the facility can serve in the evaluation of other solar components and systems. This project will derive information which should be useful in the Heatingand Cooling of Buildings Proof-of-Concept Experiments Program and will provide a facility for evaluating subsystems developed for that program.
