Abstract

This chapter describes the history and current situation of cotton production, the environmental and economic context for cotton growing in the different regions in Vietnam, the main diseases and pests (Aphis gossypii, Helicoverpa armigera, Pectinophora gossypiella, Spodoptera exigua, Spodoptera litura, Amrasca devastans [Amrasca biguttula biguttula], Scirtothrips dorsalis, Thrips palmi and Tetranychus sp.), and integrated pest management strategies for cotton under both rainfed and irrigated conditions. Plans to increase cotton production in Vietnam and challenges to expansion are also described.
