Abstract

Looks at recommendations for systemic antiviral treatment of shingles (varicella zoster virus, VZV, chickenpox), such as with aciclovir, valaciclovir, or famciclovir and noting their limited use for dealing with post-herpetic neuralgia, PHN. Looks at the use of systemic corticosteroids and neuropathic agents to modify the disease course, and comments on pain and PHN management.
