Abstract
Grammar theory is helpful for grammar teaching.The grammar teaching practice,which emphasizs the importance of form rather than meaning,guided by traditional grammar theory,fails to deal with the relationship between form and meaning.Based on language usage,cognitive grammar theories start with the symbolic units and treat the grammatical constructions as the basic units,which unify both the form and the meaning.Cognitive grammar offers a more comprehensive and systematic explanation than traditional grammar theory,which provides beneficial enlightenments to English grammar teaching.
