Abstract

This chapter introduces different aspects of the design and planning of urban drainage systems. Urban stormwater drainage systems within a district are comprised of three primary components: street gutters and roadside swales, stormwater inlets, and storm sewers. Many localities and states have stated that implementing sound land use planning is the essence of integrated water resources management. A dedicated and perhaps unique feature is the inclusion of detailed land use planning, which is the essence of integrated urban water management, based on Driving force, State, and Response dynamic strategy planning procedure. Among the components of the urban land use management system, human activities are the initial forces influencing the sustainability of land resources, which are identified as the driving forces. Sediment basins are used for flow control and also water quality treatment purposes. Constructed wetland systems are shallow retention pond designed, extensively vegetated water bodies, to permit the growth of wetland plants such as rushes, willows, and cattails.
