Abstract

The characteristics of wind speed, its speed-height power law exponent k, temperature and relative humidity for the upper air over the Arabian Gulf are studied. The variation of wind speed with height for winter and summer months has been studied. The rate of increase of wind speed with height for winter months is higher than for summer months. The monthly mean values of k for the height range up to 25 km are presented: the overall mean value was 0.194. The variations of temperature with height averaged over the months are presented. The temperature is found to decrease with height at a rate of 6.6[sup o]C/km up to a height of 17.0 km (tropopause level). Afterwards the temperature increases with height at a rate of 13.2[sup o]C/km. The variation of relative humidity with height is studied. The vertical relative humidity profiles for winter and summer seasons are presented and correlation equations for the winter months are established. (Author)
