Abstract
One of the plant derivatives which is stated to have promising potential as a future anti-scabies treatment among them is Azadirachta indica A. Juss commonly known as Neem (mimba), one of the plants known to have anti-parasitic effects. The neem plant which contains azadirachtin can influence about 200 species of insects, one of which is the Arthoropoda phylum including sarcoptes scabiei which is a cause of scabies. Azadirachtin is one of the secondary metabolites produced from neem plants including in the class of organic molecules tetranortriterpenoids where the substance is believed to have scabisidal activity and natural pesticides that are environmentally friendly. Azadirachtin in the neem does not kill lice directly, but interferes with the process of eating, growth and reproduction. Various disturbances in the cascade of events resulted in various effects such as the effects of sterility, disturbance of metamorphosis and ultimately cause death of S. scabiei.
