Abstract

In October, the Academy unveiled its bold new health insurance proposal to create a national program in which all children and adolescents through age 21 would be eligible automatically. Now, the next phase of the process begins, and the Academy is requesting feedback from its membership. Key to this process is the input of those who will be most affected by this proposal, practicing pediatricians, as well as our patients and their families, said Rick Bucciarelli, M.D., FAAP, chair of the AAP Task Force on Health Insurance Coverage and Access to Care. The next steps involve further development of the details of the proposal, including funding mechanisms and minimizing further erosion of the private insurance market.
