GRADUATE SEMINAR IN THE SOCIOLOGY OF HEALTH AND ILLNESS

This course presents a conceptual and substantive overview of The Sociology of Health and Illness (also known as Medical Sociology). While the field is so large no single course could cover its entire breadth, my attempt here is examine what I see as some of the most fundamental and salient sociological issues concerning health and illness. Since medicine and health care are undergoing significant change, one of our foci will be continuity and change in health and health. We will continually rub theoretical perspectives against a changing social reality.
