Abstract
This paper explores the significant capabilities for SMEs in food and beverages industry to enhance their performance in export business. It reports on the findings from interviews data of 21 SMEs in Malaysia. Building upon resource based view (RBV) and dynamic capabilities view (DCV), this qualitative study indicates the importance of innovation capability and adaptive capability for the SMEs’ export performance particularly in developing countries. This paper contributes to the international small business management literature by presenting a preliminary analysis of the interface between innovation capability, adaptive capability and export performance.
