The purpose of the study is to develop a quantitative and qualitative method for identifying factors behind the capacity of a special lexeme for a certain degree of determinologisation. The paper considers the use of biological terms of the Russian language in non-special types of discourse. The author highlighted three models of meaning transformation during determinologisation, corresponding to its low, medium and high degrees. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in developing an algorithm for quantitative and qualitative analysis for determinologisation research. As a result, it has been ascertained that the statistically relevant factors of determinologisation in the Russian language are thematic attribution, structural organisation and semantic ambiguity of a lexeme.
