Abstract
Biomass gasification is age old technology originated in 1800 century for lighting and cooking purposes. Different types of biomass gasifiers are available depending upon various sizes and design as per requirement which mainly classified in to fixed bed and fluidized bed type of gasifiers. Apart from high thermal efficiency updraft gasifiers have some other main advantages such as small pressure drop and slight tendency of slag formation. However updraft gasifiers has some drawbacks such as sensitivity to tar and moisture content of the biomass, low gas production, long start up time of the engine and poor reaction capability of the system. The Crossdraft gasifier has separate zones of ash bin, fire reduction which limit the biomass fuel used for operation with less ash content in the final produced syngas. Crossdraft gasifier has certain advantages such as fast response against biomass fed in the reactor, small start time, compatible with dry air blast, flexible syngas production, and comparatively shorter design height.
