Abstract

Personal consumption is the largest macroeconomic aggregate and it accounts for the largest share of GDP in almost every national economy. That is precisely why many scientists have paid attention to her in their research. The greatest impact on personal consumption is on the disposable income of households and individuals, so personal consumption is the function of disposable income. The aim of this paper is to explain what personal consumption and concepts associated with the same and what they are: disposable income, wealth, function of consumption and expectations. Furthermore, the aim of this paper is to clarify the most famous theories of personal consumption and analyse personal consumption in the Republic of Croatia. The analysis shows that personal consumption accounts for almost 60% of GDP of the Republic of Croatia and that GDP and personal consumption are strongly correlated since they have a very high correlation coefficient. Also, the analysis showed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, because of the conclusion of the economy, personal consumption in all categories of expenditure fell compared to the same period in previous years. This is due to the reduction in disposable income available to households and individuals for spending because, as they worked less, their income decreased.
