Abstract
The introduction of the bmd to Soviet airborne units has provided Soviet military planners with a force which is capable of the projection of meaningful military power beyond the borders of the Soviet Union. The added firepower and mobility provided by this vehicle makes BMD equipped Soviet airborne forces the most potent strike force of its type in the world. In both a general and limited war situation these forces pose a serious threat to NATO. (Author)
