Abstract A small-plot field experiment was conducted to screen insecticides for control of ear damage by the corn earworm. Corn was planted 4 May in an Appling loamy coarse sand. The experiment was a randomized complete block design with 2-row plots, 20 ft long, 38 inches wide, with 5-ft alleys, replicated 5 times. Full-cone sprays were applied at 30 psi, directed on ears in a final volume of 25 gal/acre. Sprays were initiated when silks first appeared. Plants were sprayed on 22, 24, and 26 Jun and 1, 3, 6 and 8 Jul. On 10 Jul all ears in the middle 18 ft of each plot were examined for damage and the presence of live corn earworms.
