Abstract Failure to re-establish loblolly and slash pine stands when old ones are cut and harvest before culmination of mean annual increment are reducing potential future harvests in the Southeast. The current rate of harvesting could be more than doubled if reproduction were assured and harvesting were delayed until age 30.
