Employees' salaries and employment

This chapter presents and discusses the salary of most employees of the five automakers. We will see that the salaries are below the average salaries in the United States, for example. This sector has already had good salaries and was the dream of every worker. Today beginners’ salaries are similar to those of commercial employees and fast-food chains, and when we look at the ratio between the average salary of workers and the total earnings of CEOs, we see many differences, hundreds of times the earnings of the CEO. They are greater than that of the rest of the workers, increasing economic inequality between the wage strata and increasing inequality in society as a whole. This indicator also looks at the question of employment, which is widely discussed in the present day as a great concern for most people. In the automotive industry, we will find different dynamics regarding the creation or destruction of jobs. While some automakers are destroying jobs, others are creating many, mainly in developing countries such as China and India. In general, employment in this sector is leaving central countries and moving to the periphery, showing a current process full of dynamism. We will analyse this indicator in each of the five automakers.
