Abstract

A review on biogas technology based on the anaerobic fermentation of renewable organic wastes, particularly with reference to the use of the technology in rural India. Subjects discussed include the development of biogas technology, the environmental and operational conditions that determine the rate of biogas production, means for improving the anaerobic digestion of diverse organic substrates, biogas quality and use, the use of biogas sludge, and the economics of family sized biogas systems. (Refs. 52)
