Abstract

The quality of service (QoS) is always defined end-to-end. The QoS in telecommunications networks at the beginning of the twenty-first century is directly linked to the standardization of the next generation network (NGN) by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-T. NGN networks implemented by telecom operators provide the base for interoperability between networks based on standards and offer the possibility of having end-to-end QoS for those services that need it. The main target of the NGN functional architecture is real-time services, including conversational multimedia and content delivery services. The central position in the NGN architecture for control functions is reserved for the network access control functions. The further evolution of NGN within the ITU is referred to as future networks. iit is a continuation of the work on NGN, targeted to smart and more advanced services, considering different types of awareness, including: service awareness, data awareness, environmental awareness and social and economic awareness.
