Abstract
This chapter discusses the concept of monitoring and considers some possible links between traditional monitoring, such as strategic, competitive and technological monitoring, and an innovation process. Monitoring is an informational research and surveillance activity in accordance with the legislation in force, which shares many common. Beyond the exploration of a subject related to a stage of innovation (or strategic intelligence, competitive intelligence), certain forms of monitoring can be designed to inspire or be carried out by the creatives themselves. Some creative forms of monitoring concern mapping and the search for new, forgotten or non-existent solutions. The chapter also discusses the specificities of information retrieval in an innovation framework and the particular cases of creative and strategic innovation monitoring. In addition to the creative forms of monitoring, there are other forms specifically oriented to contribute to strategic innovation. They can aim to position the company's innovation strategies in relation to its environment.
