Abstract
Saliva plays an important role in digestion, host defense, and lubrification processes. Saliva contains a complex mixture of salivary proteins. Most of them of them were found in other fluids of human organism. In oral cavity, salivary proteins complain multiple functions. Although saliva contains several antibacterial factors, such as lysozyme, the typical oral flora is not significantly affected by them. This study focuses on the presentation of structure and role which salivary proteins have in the maintaining health of oral cavity and host defense against aggressive factors which can induce different pathologies specific to this site.
