Abstract

This chapter is a study of the range and penetration depth of electrons and heavy charged in matter. Range calculated in the continuous slowing down approximation is compared with the maximum depth of penetration. The method of using measured and calculated range to determine the mean excitation/ionization energy, I, is discussed.
