Abstract

Before turning to the problem of translating proper names, let us turn to the definition of such a concept as onomastics. The word onomastica comes from the Greek word for name. As a science, onomastics studies proper names, i.e. the names of people, animals, peoples, and geographical objects. Proper names cover a significant part of our lives. Names are given not only to everything that a person creates, but also to geographical objects, including those that are located outside the globe. Among proper names, you can trace the specific features of their preservation and transmission.
